Boku-Undo Thickened Sumi Ink for Calligraphy and Mokuhanga Woodblock Printmaking
Boku-Undo Thickened Sumi Ink for Calligraphy and Mokuhanga Woodblock Printmaking
Japanese Thickened Sumi Ink for Calligraphy and Mokuhanga Woodblock Printmaking
Highly recommended by mokuhnaga artist Elizabeth Forrest
Size: 100ml / 3.38oz tube
A polished black sumi ink that flows well and dries quickly. Gives good darks and lights.
Suitable for cold climates and easy to use in winter.
"In Japan it’s used for calligraphy but is a great favorite of hanga printers in Japan I’m told. I like it because unlike the mokuhanga sumi I studied with, it’s liquid and when it dries in a container doesn’t crystallize and can be reconstituted. Out of the tube, you have to add some water to
make it spreadable with a hanga brush, since it’s very thick, but it remains intense black. Tip: Adding little drops of sumi TO the water gives you an incredible range of greys. (If you add water to the sumi, you’ll end up making a very large quantity trying to get grey as it is so intense)"
