Gasenshi (Gasen-shi) Hakuhoh Paper for Sumi-e and Shodo
Gasenshi is a type of traditional Chinese 'drawing' paper used primarily for sumi-e (brush painting) and shodo (brush writing). The addition of bamboo and straw fiber makes gasenshi soft and absorbent. These papers come to us from the papermaker folded in thirds and the soft marks are a result of this. They flatten or iron out and disappear when work is mounted.
