Katazome-shi are stenciled using traditional techniques on handmade kozo washi with four deckle edges. The patterns are based on traditional kimono printing techniques. Sheets size is approximately 24" x 36" with a border and deckle edges.
I am saddened to share the news that Mr. Kawakatsu, owner of one of Wazome Kogei — one of the last remaining Katazome-shi production studios in Japan — has recently passed away. Tragically, without a successor, the studio has closed, resulting in the discontinuation of the entire katazome-shi selection along with a small number of gift items. Below are the patterns remaining in my stock.
